Te Ruruku Pūtakerongo

The 31st of March 2023 marked the initialling of Te Ruruku Pūtakerongo as hundreds gathered in witness.

In 1865, Taranaki Maunga was confisctaed along side 1.2 million hectares of Māori land for "rebellion" in the Taranaki
Wars. Under the Mount Egmont Vesting Act 1978, Taranaki Maunga was returned to the Taranaki Māori Trust Board, before immediately being given back to the government as a "gift to the nation" However there has always been little evidence
of an agreement to do this.

Crown representatives led by Treaty Minister Andrew Little walked onto Aotearoa Pā to an extremely powerful powhiri. The sound of a Parihaka drum, poi, karanga we're heard by all who attended the memorable day.

Ōkahu Inuawai, Kanihi Umutahi hapū and Ngāruahine iwi should be proud of the whakatau extended to ngā uri katoa o Taranaki Maunga. Unifying Taranaki on Aotearoa Pā to deliver this powerful Powhiri to crown later in the day.
